I Can’t Get No Sleep
I don’t think I’ve mentioned before that I’m slightly insomniac. It’s not a thing that happens regularly or continuously, but it is chronic: every now and then I’ll have a period where I suddenly sleep two or three hours each night instead of my usual six or seven. Sometimes, I’m up all night without being able to sleep at all.
One of those bouts hit last night. Admittedly, there were extenuating circumstances. Our cat was in a bit of a state: she’s half-Persian, very timid and on a little tour of the garden yesterday must have smelled something she didn’t like. It was probably the markings of another cat or something. This upset her and started off psychologically-induced cystitis, so she was mewling and running back and forth to her litter tray all the time.
Thankfully, we have a really good medicine that she doesn’t mind taking. Well, she doesn’t really like taking it, but at least she doesn’t try to slash my hand off when I give her it! The normal procedure in these circumstances - for me - is to give her two doses of the medicine in one day and stay up all night, so she has a reassuring presence. Yes, I know - I’m a carer for the cat, too!
This morning, she’s much better. My partner is recovering from her bout of inebriation last night - which was much shorter, less drunken and more controlled than I had feared - and I’m wandering around like a zombie, since I only grabbed about an hour’s sleep!
And to top it all, it’s my birthday today. Thirty-nine. One more to the big four-oh.
