Somewhat Unfair

As you may know, we have money problems. Massive debt, no income since I lost my job from back troubles and my lady’s need for extravagant quantities of alcohol are all making the budget very difficult to manage. Sometimes we get by, a lot of the time we scrape by. Frequently, it is a source of dissent between us, because she knows I cost about five times less than she does.

Yesterday, a generous Christmas gift from my in-laws arrived in our bank account. We’d already had some money from my mum (which got spent on a pair of boots for her, nice food for Christmas day and the rest was used to just continue surviving) and we knew this was coming - but didn’t know when.

Now, since our rental agency was hassling me to get the rent in for the month and my partner was asleep (yes, she spent my entire birthday sleeping off her hangover), I went ahead and paid it. I had to use most of the gift money to do it, but I figured it’s better to have somewhere to live than not.

So I tell her this morning. And now she’s really annoyed at me, because she won’t be able to spend the money on clothes. It doesn’t matter that I’ve had to take another short-term loan to pay for food. She won’t get her clothes.

Is it just me, or is that reaction a little unfair?
